World - 1865 - MENDEL ANNOUNCES DISCOVERY OF GENETIC PATTERNS
Working in his experimental garden at Altbrunn Monastery the "Father of Genetics", Gregor Mendel, bred 28,000 pea plants during a ten year experiment. He discovered genetic patterns in succeeding generations and presented his experiments to the Brunn Natural Science Society in the spring of 1865. A paper about his work was published one year later. Mendel's work was largely ignored for 35 years until three other European scientists conducting genetic experiments developed the same conclusions.
